VW Scirocco Page
I bought my first Scirocco in 1992, and it has gone strong ever
since. It is a 1984 factory Kamei X1 GTI. It was special ordered from Germany,
and is one of the few Sciroccos without a catalytic converter. It has a
1.8L GTI 8V engine, sunroof, aluminum rims, and is pretty much the way
it came from the factory 260,000 kms ago. It still runs like a top, and
pulls hard away from the line. It is a pewter iridescent gray. This isn't
the
greatest pic, but it shows both of my babies.
This year my Kamei X1 got some new boots. They are 15x7" rims with
a 35 mm offset wrapped in 195/50R15 Z -rated rubber.
My second Scirocco I bought from the government salvage lot. It
had front passenger side damage but the rest of the car was immaculate.
I purchased it in March of 1998, and I have straightened the frame now.
This is going to be my project 'Zender Z-400' car.
The first 3 pics are after the frame was straightened (notice I
still need a hood!!), the last three are the before pics.
I wish I had some pics of a Scirocco with the Zender Z400 body,
but at the moment I don't.
On July 3rd I got her running for the first time. Started after
only turning over once, but I found a slight oil leak.
Luck was with me though, and it turned out that the oil filter
was bent and leaking. After I replaced it, she started up
and ran like a top. Sounds good for a car that was totaled off
3 months earlier.
