MK3 GOLF CABRIOLET VR6 TURBO
Story by Noor Abrahams Pictures obtained from various internet websites |
It redefined the Volkswagen car as a cabriolet and simply if ever you looked up the word "breathtaking", this VR6 Cabriolet would be the definition! Well, the car you see before is no more as from the pictures below, you would have concluded that it has been wrecked. You concluded right and most of the interior has been stripped and sold already. But this car has a history almost like a love-story with a sad ending (just as most love-stories end). The car started out originally in burgundy/mulberry and was purchased by 1552DESIGN (formerly VW Sport USA). The stock 2litre engine was swapped for the more powerful 2.8litre VR6 unit. What also was fitted was the complete ABT Sportsline bodykit comprising front spoiler, side skirts, sports grille and twin-headlight unit as well as projektzwo sport mirrors. | Wheels were large 18x8J Kinesis rims which was coated powder black. The car already turned many heads at that point as it truly was a masterpiece. But Brad Beardow wasn't yet satisfied that the car's full potential was realised with regard to looks and power. The car then underwent a sort of metamorphosis and the fenders were widened by carefully flaring the stock fenders. This would allow the wheels to fit easily underneath the fenders if the car was lowered to the extreme without any scraping of tyre against the fenders. The car was then resprayed Audi aluminium silver. The gearbox was exchanged for the six-speed European-spec version fortified with a Quaife limited-slip differential. The engine was upgraded with an EIP turbo with intercooler which fitted without any problems. All this power | was fed out via a Techtonics stainless steel exhaust system with Genie DTM tips. ABT Sportsline coil-overs were fitted and enhanced with Neuspeed anti-roll bars which already was on the car. Braking was upgraded as well with 13" AP Racing brakes featuring cross-drilled rotors and four-piston calipers. New wheels were chosen and Brad opted for ABT Sportsline A24 wheels in 18x8J configuration running on Pirelli P-Zero Assymetrico tires. On the inside a MOMO Topower steering wheel, ABT Sportsline gearknob, Porsche C2 Speedster bucket seats, Euro-spec centre console and ABT gauge panel for oil pressure and voltage readings were all installed. Well, the life of this car ended in a car pile-up and will be missed dearly. Maybe Brad has something else planned? Who knows. Let's wait and see.... |
