MUSTANG COBRA OFFERS REFINEMENTS FOR 1998

As the Ford Special Vehicle Team enters its sixth consecutive model year, much of its marketplace success can be traced to the team s resolve to stay focused on the SVT product hallmarks of performance, substance exclusivity and value.

With that in mind, only those visual and mechanical refinements that serve to enhance SVT s form follows function design philosophy were considered for the 1998 SVT Mustang Cobra. Consequently, changes to this year s 305-horsepower SVT Cobra model are minimal.

The 1998 Cobra sports a new SVT family wheel style. Similar to the version that debuted on the 1995 Cobra R model, the new five-spoke alloy wheel is a classic, open design which better exposes the upgraded brake componentry of the Cobra.

To reinforce the SVT Cobra s exclusivity, the color availability has been shuffled once again for 98. Laser Red Clearcoat replaces Rio Red Clearcoat, and two new colors will be offered in place of Pacific Green on the Cobra palette: Bright Atlantic Blue and Chrome Yellow.

Inside, all SVT Cobras are equipped with a revised complement of comfort and
convenience items. A compact disc player is now standard with the AM-FM / Cassette
with Premium Sound. Along with the rest of the Mustang line this year, the center
console has been redesigned to include dual cup holders and power points. And the clock
pod atop the Cobra instrument panel has been eliminated, as the clock now resides in the
radio display.

Finally, as a running change in mid-1997, the Cobra s engine signature sticker has been replaced by a more durable metallic plate. As always, the SVT Mustang Cobra stays a limited production vehicle. About 8,000 units are scheduled for worldwide sale in 1998, the vast majority destined for the 700 SVT certified Ford dealers in the United States, with the remainder exported to Canada, Mexico, and Japan.

The Cobra comes with a long list of standard equipment, including anti-lock brakes, 17-inch wheels and tires, air conditioning, speed control and premium electronic AM-FM stereo / cassette. For 1998, Option Group packaging replaces the traditional PEP package system of grouping Cobra options. The optional Electronics and Leather Trim Group adds the Total Anti-Theft system, Mach 460 sound system and leather interior to the Cobra for an additional $1,040. The rear decklid spoiler remains a $195 option. The manufacturer s suggested retail price of a 1998 SVT Mustang Cobra coupe is $26,355; the convertible model is priced at $28,955. Both prices include destination and delivery charges.
