At the Torino Car Show ((in Italy)) Mercedes presents
the newest version of the SL. On the outside the roadster
had been changed very little. An oval exhaust pipe outlet and a slightly
changed rear of the car shall provide a more dynamic
appearance.
The 17 inch light alloy rims now standard for all SL-models
and an enhanced interior shall provide more splendour. Wooden inlays and
leather front seats do come as standard from June ((1998)) on as well as
ESP with SL500 and SL600. The most important changes are with the engine
range: The new V6 and
V8 engines used with SL280, SL320 and SL600 with 204hp,
224hp and 306hp shall consume 11 per cent less gasoline than the old SL-engines
due to three-valve-technique and double-ignition.
