ALAIN  PROST   

1984   

Alain`s new team-mate was double World Champion Niki Lauda and they managed to totally dominate the whole season. At the end Niki`s huge experience proved to be a decisive factor in a very tied race for the crown. He won it by half a point (72:71,5) from Alain, who was desperate for being so close again, but still not winning it. Nevertheless, Alain learnt a lot that year and, beside that, won 7 races.

1985

Still in McLaren with Niki Lauda as a team-mate - but it was to be a different, even more successful season than last. Niki was slowly retiring and at the end of the season was only 10th with 14points. Alain, on the other hand, was at his best and the crown could not elude him again. 73 points and 5 wins were more than enough and Alain finally became World Champion. Second, Michele Alboreto, was 20 points behind.

1986

New season, new team-mate, the same team and another title. It wasn`t easy though because Nigel Mansell would have claimed the title if his tyre had not blown in the final race of the season. Alain`s 72 points and 4 wins proved to be just enough to beat Mansell`s 70 and Piquet`s 69 points. Team-mate Keke Rosberg was 6th with 22 points.

1987

The McLaren team lost superiority and it proved to be a bad year for them. Alain was not able to fight for the title for the first time in many years and has finished the season only 4th with 46 points. His team-mate Stefan Johansson was 6th with 30 points while double World Champion Nelson Piquet (Williams Honda) claimed his third title with 73 points.
