APR Chip

Audi Performance Research (APR) Chip

Aside from the suspention modifications, the only other modification I have to the car is a chip by APR. I went with APR because they have a good reputation among the industry. I went with a 91 octane map and a 100 octane race map. I have yet to try the race map, but from what I understand, the car should be a beast. With the 91 octane map, the car really wakes up and feels like it should. At 250hp, it felt like it needed more power. With 307hp (APR claim), it feels about right, but the turbos lose their breath in the upper revs. I understand, the common upgrade is a K04 turbo (stocker is K03), as used in the Audi RS4.

The APR chip is pretty trick. They've rigged it up so that you can change between "programs" by using the cruise control stalk. So, while I daily drive in the 91 octane map, if I wanted to use 100 octane, switching to the 100 octane map is as easy as holding down a button. APR also offers a "stock" map, where they save the stock programming and you can flip back to that, if you want (like if you were still under warranty). They also use encrypton so that the dealer, among others, cannot see the maps. They also have options like a valet mode and anti-theft mod. APR can be found here.
