After you changed your exhaust system and switched your intake to a cold-air system. You output should have jumped to about 120-125hp with the SOHC and 125-130hp on a DOHC. Your next step if you own a SOHC would be to get a Unorthodox underdrive pulley. This is worth about a 4-5hp gain overall. One of the SOHC Neons tested at the recent Az Neon High Performance Weekend made 126hp and 138ft of torque. Pretty good... As for DOHC's your next step could be one of a couple of things, depending on budget. If you have about $350 to spend, then try a GUDE ported intake manifold and bored throttle body. Shane Hale has these mods on his ACR coupe and made 128hp, the most powerful DOHC that day. We are currently look at Extrude Hone intake manifold(s). We are looking at testing it very soon.
Below is a dynojet chart of what a underdrive pulley can do. There is a no baseline run for this Neon, but DOHC's general make about 114-115hp at the wheels.
Mike Henry has very limited mods to his DOHC ACR. They include home-ported intake, home bored throttle body and ICEMAN intake. For the limited amount of mods, I would have to say this is pretty good.
You like that? Look at this one. Chuck's DOHC Neon has most of the bolt-ons available for Neons, including a Pacesetter header. Impressive results.
