Fatboy
A Little History…..
The history of the First Edition Harley Davidson Fatboy is quite interesting. The name "Fatboy" was derived by combining the names of the two atomic bombs,
"Fatman and Little Boy"
which were dropped by the
crew
of the
"Enola Gay"
on Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
The color scheme, silver and yellow, also has some
significance. "Fatman" was yellow in color and silver has always been
associated with planes in the Air Force. The Fatboy gas tank emblem shows a lot of resemblance to the Air Force Wing emblem.
The 1990 Harley Davidson Fatboy has 7
yellow rings painted throughout the bike. You will find one on the ignition
ring, one on the primary inspection cover, two on the gas tank, one on the
cam cover and two on the rocker boxes. Another item that makes this bike
stand out is the frame color. It is silver instead of the classic
Harley Davidson
black. The "1990 Harley Davidson Fatboy" was destined to become a collectors item. It has found a
special following among both military personnel and civilians alike.
The designers of this bike had no intention of hurting anyone's feelings when
they named it the "Fatboy" but only meant this bike to serve as a reminder of
particular time in history.
