Restoration of Our Classic Mustang Convertible

Welcome to an array of photographs of our 1965 Mustang convertible as its restoration progresses!

In response to recommendations from several viewers, I am in the process of splitting this page into several subpages in an attempt to speed up loading of the many pictures. Please bear with me as I work through the process! Thanks for the advice!

We were lucky to find a beautiful very late-1964 1/2/very early 1965 (Date Code 13H -- August 13, 1964) Mustang convertible with a straight body and very clean interior. But rust had started breaking out all over and some poor efforts at restoration had been attempted. These photos document the body and undercarriage work we found necessary.

I think it appropriate to begin with a graphic lesson to all who would presume to repair rust on the cheap. BONDO! Our left rear quarter was all Bondo, cracking and falling apart!

Look at the mess that resulted!
But now we're ready to make the car right!

On with the repairs!

Click HERE to see the pinched doors, evidencing a serious problem that could have resulted in the car folding in on itself!

The rear valence had been pulled away from the rear fenders and had to be realigned.

And, naturally, the battery tray was shot. Here is "before and after" for that problem.

Here are some of the new parts -- wheelhouse panels, quarter panels, torque boxes, frame rails, wheel flairs, etc. -- prepped for use in replacing those beyond repair...
