Okay, so it's not the ultimate Mercedes to own, but it's a sweet ride regardless. This car was originally shipped to Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada), and it now resides with me in East Lansing, Michigan, home of Michigan State University.

• Master-lock system: enables the doors, fuel tank filler flap and trunk lid to be locked or unlocked simultaneously. As the door lock on the driver's door is operated, all other locks move at the same time. It's vacuum-operated, with the engine providing enough of a reservoir for 8 locks or unlocks when it is not running. If no vacuum is available, the locks operate in the usual way.

• Four levers for heating, 2 knobs for the air conditioner: Could they make this thing any more complicated? Lever 1 has 5 positions: Full right: air supply off, Full left: full blower speed. Lever 2 selects air to floor or windows. Lever 3 warms the left side of the car, Lever 4 warms the right. A picture is worth...
