1936 Ford Coupe
Wayne Zweck / Albury Street Rodders

Wayne is a member of Albury Street Rodders, and had recently finished building his '36 Coupe when we called in to see his project last March. It has taken Wayne 5 years to build his '36 coupe which originally came from Adelaide. We were really impressed with the coupe, and as can be seen by the photos a lot of thought has gone into the construction of the '36, achieving a good looking street rod, with enough grunt to get anyone's adrenalin pumping.

To begin with the body needed 300 ml (1') of the lower section replaced, and to achieve that low-down, mean look, the roof was chopped a good 3". The firewall was fabricated by using 2 firewall sections to match up the swage lines, while 3 separate grilles were needed to make one good one. An early model Landcruiser wiper assembly has been used in place of the old system. Wayne has retained the fully operational original dicky-seat and had the spare wheel removed. The rear bumper brackets were shortened to bring the bar in closer to hug the body lines and to add to the overall look the running boards have been smoothed and painted. Wayne chose to use 'Weldwheels', 6" front & 8" rear.

The engine is a new Goodwrench 350 Chev from the U.S. 400 heads were fitted to suit the blower (which is underdriven), along with forged 8:25.1 blower pistons, and roller rockers. The trans is a stage 2 T400, 2400 stall converter, 9" diff with 4:11 ratio.

On completion of the the car it was put on the chassis dyno to fine tune the engine. We asked Wayne what sort of horsepower it put out on the dyno. He said, "Gee, at 4200 revs the rear tyres were smoking up, and were shredding rubber, so we weren't able to take it up to it's full potential". Awesome!

The '36 was registered on N.S.W. street rod rego about 15 months ago, enabling Wayne to pay discounted rego fees, while still being able to drive to rod runs etc. Those involved in building the car with Wayne were; Keith Stamp;bodywork. Graham Robb;paint (Spanctacka Blue). Neil Anderson;electricals. Graham Moon;engine set up & dyno. Peter McDonald;upholstery.
