The C.V.V.T.M.C. once again presented the 'Shannons Eastern Creek Classic'. A swap meet started at 6:00 am in the pit area, with trade stands in the pit garages. The weather was great, and the day was well attended with a show 'n shine in the pits, and on the grassed areas. At $5 gate entry, and $40 to race, this made for a cheap day out. However, this only enticed 90 vehicles to enter the day's racing. The biggest problem was communication, with Eastern Creek only providing 6 officials, and no full computer facilities for the time logging and read-outs. They complained to us that the C.V.V.T.M.C. guys did not notify them that they had invited us to attend and race!
I presumed that the C.V.V.T.M.C. guys were comparing the meeting, but to my dismay found out that Cliff Carter was doing it all himself, with a P.A. that did not work, and zero assistance from Eastern Creek officials. The proposed lunch break was cancelled, but no-one was told, and racing was to go on till 2:30 pm and not 4:30 pm, and the day was finished!
Thanks to the work of Adrian Buckley and the Hudsons the trophy list was worked out, and presentation was at 3:00 pm. Thanks also goes to Steve Law for the "pulling your hair out" effort he put into the day.
Next time I believe there should be more consideration about running this event in conjunction with the C.V.V.T.M.C., as we seem to be able to run this event better ourselves.
