Street Rodder News Issue No. 11 - October 1997
After years of discussions and correspondence, Tasmanian Rodders finally have the option of Limited Street Rod Registration.
Under the new regulations, financial members of the Australian Street Rod Federation will be able to register road-worthy street rods and customs on the cheaper limited scheme, which is available for any Federation class vehicle.
After the vehicle passes a scrutineer's check, (carried out by our own club scrutineers), and a special form is signed stating the owner will abide by the conditions, the plates can be issued at an initial cost of $169 for the first year, which includes the cost of the plates, and an annual renewal of $94.
Vehicle usage is restricted to any club or sanctioned ASRF event, and driving to and from repairs, or road test, where an area controller has been notified. Any breaches of the conditions will lead to the owner having to pay full registration, and jeopardising the concession for other members.
The registration plates feature the prefix "ROD", with a three digit number, and the words "Australian Street Rod Federation" along the lower edge. A press release was held recently, in front of the Hobart Transport Dept office, with the Tasmanian Minister for Transport, the Hon. John Cleary MHA, various Transport Dept executives, Early Ford V8 Club President Phil Robinson, and media personnel giving us coverage in the local newspaper and on State wide TV news.
Anyone needing more information on the scheme can contact me at the address or phone number detailed on the first page of this magazine.
