ASRF 14th Street Rod Nationals

Update

The 14th ASRF Street Rod Nationals are fast approaching, and as with previous Nationals, the ASRF is purpose building a Street Rod, which will be raffled, and won by some lucky person. This National's raffle car is a Deuce Customs fully fendered '32 Ford 2 door touring, (like Henry should have made). This unique body style will be sitting on a Rod City Repro's rolling chassis, and will have many slick trick bits from Hot Rod Hardware, plus feature a very healthy Pro-Stroke Engine's 393ci stroker Chevrolet V8.

Dave Dorman from NSW has taken on the task of finding businesses able to sponsor parts and services, to help build this tremendous vehicle. The car will be assembled and detailed, with the lions share of the work being done by Dave Hart, with the assistance of Ray Williams.

There has been a great response to the competition to design a paint scheme for the raffle car from many keen rodders. The concepts have ranged from mild to wild, and by the time this Newsletter gets to everyone, a final decision on the paint scheme will have been made, with the work probably well on the way to being done.

The organising committee have no illusions as to how big a task it is to put on a Nationals, as all of the committee have been involved in their own clubs' Rod Runs etc. for many years. They intend to work their ring gears off to make sure all those that attend will have a great time, and take home many fond memories of the Geelong event.

It is recommended that you secure your accommodation as soon as possible, so that you aren't left camping on a park bench with a newspaper for cover. Ring this toll free number - 1800 620 888 - to have information sent to you on the local accommodation available in the Geelong area. And, if you intended to camp at the Nationals venue, please remember that camping shall only be available to those who have officially entered. So, to avoid missing out, get your entries in early please, and we will send you a camping form with more details.

We wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge some of the sponsors who have now thrown their support behind the 14th ASRF Street Rod Nationals-Geelong 1999. They are the VHRA, Cooper Automotive (Champion), Select Auto Imports, ICI Auto Colour, IDIDIT, Select Automatics, Deuce Customs, and Aussie Desert Coolers.

We have been approaching many of the country's well-known companies, looking at how they could benefit from being a sponsor in some way. So, if there is anyone who has a contact that they feel would benefit from being a sponsor, please contact Terry Crosbie.

As part of our pre-Nationals promotions, we will be producing a calendar featuring business card size ads for businesses who want to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. The calendar will feature the Nationals logo, and will be set up in a format of Easter 1998 to Easter 1999. Please be advised that this opportunity is only available to the first 30 businesses to apply.

For more details contact: Terry Crosbie (Promotions co-ordinator) on (03) 9782 1173 a/hrs or (03) 9580 5188 b/hrs.

We have our basic itinerary worked out, which in some cases is similar to previous Nationals, with some of the details to be fine-tuned yet

THURSDAY

Entrants arrive, and settle in after the long drive.

FRIDAY

SATURDAY

There will be area for the kids to hang out at (i.e. carnival + games area) Car games (We would like to hear from as many clubs as possible who would like to help out with running their favorite car games)

SUNDAY

MONDAY

STOP PRESS

We are very pleased to announce to all those who have their Nationals entry in before the 31st January, 1999 that we are GIVING AWAY a '28-'29 'A' Model Ford Tudor Body, as our entrant's give-away prize. This car has been generously donated by Select Auto Imports, with Deuce Customs kindly donating a set of glass guards for it as well. We believe that by the 14th Nationals pre-entry cut-off date that the car will be on a rolling chassis, to make it a little easier to transport to the lucky entrant's home!
