After almost a whole year of planning, the '97 Bright Rod Run, hosted by the Melbourne based Northern Suburbs Street Rod Club, was again a huge success. Because of limitations at the Dinner Dance venue, it was necessary to restrict entries to 370. This number was reached well before the closing date, and as a result, a number of entries had to be refunded. However, we hope to make different arrangements in '98 in order to accommodate all that want to enjoy the Run.

Under the clear blue skies, and with warm temperatures for the whole weekend, 147 entrants from 6 States participated in a most enjoyable Run. There were a great variety of vehicles, with many entrants attending for the first time. The noticeable increase in 50's and 60's rides would indicate that many are being introduced to Rodding with those era vehicles, or perhaps the pre '49ers are getting harder to acquire! 62 players presented themselves for Friday's golf tournament. Unfortunately, the hot weather was the downfall of some, who completed the course at the 19th hole.

During the mini-cruise to Beechworth on Saturday, the heat sent several cars to the roadside. However, with assistance from members of Beechworth's "Old Crank Club", all made it to the Town Hall Gardens for the provided lunch, and back to Bright for the evening entertainment.

The final day had almost all entrants' rides on display at the Show & Shine in Bright's main shopping streets. Here the judges had the most difficult task, because of the excellent quality of workmanship on display, and in Rookie class, 41 entrants nominated.
Feedback from a large number of rodders indicates they all agreed that it was a most successful Run. Northern Suburbs Street Rod Club extend a sincere thank you to all of our sponsors, and to the various people and organisations who gave us assistance. Our intention was achieved-To put on a Great Run!
