What does a State Director do in between trying to come up with new ideas to encourage clubs to raise their profile within the community, chairing state council meetings, attending meetings with ASRF clubs as well as other interested clubs to talk about the future of the ASRF, replying to hundreds of phone calls and letters, running a business, being involved with his own club's activities (Mountain District Rodders in Bruce's case), taking the kids to scouts/dancing classes/netball, going to school plays, parent teacher nights, the kids birthdays, the wife's birthday, eating, helping with homework, fixing the shopping trolley when it breaks, being on the ASRF's Geelong Nats Committee, hunting around for flowers when he forgets the wedding anniversaryyou get the picture now?
Well, if you are like Victoria's State Director, Bruce Borlase, you try to get in some time on your latest project., i.e. the ex Ian Callinan's channeled '34 Ford drag racer coupe. Bruce acquired the coupe in a pretty sad state, and proceeded to put it back on top of the rails, make and then fit a lot of patch panels, set up the chassis, mount the 302 Ford Windsor V8, the auto, the rear end etc.
The chassis is now painted and the body isn't all that far away from paint as well. The paint colour of Bruce's choice is a very bright yellow, and he has decided, after a bit of prompting from wife, Helen, that the coupe will be fully fendered. If all goes to plan, the coupe will be ready for the Geelong Nationals, can't wait to see it there!
