Australian Street Rod Federation - Street Rodder News Issue No. 10 - July 1997

I was born in WA, and I can recall my earliest interest in rodding - I went to a West Coast Rod & Custom Club meeting with a friend who had just purchased a roadster from a Jockey. That was around 1967. In those earlier years I was also interested in early Holdens which included an FJ panel van with a chopped top, followed by a Chevy powered Bedford Van, a 351 XJ6 Jag, and in more recent times, a V8 Ford Capri.

I didn't get the inclination to actually build a Rod until 1991, when I purchased a Deuce Customs '33 3W Coupe body. A wrecked VN V6 Commodore was also purchased which supplied all of the running gear for the coupe. That car took approximately two and a half years to complete, and has proven to be an extremely reliable and comfortable rod. I am proud to say it won a place in the Top 10 at Valla a few years ago. The car is presently for sale to make funds available for my current project, which is a 1935 Ford Woody. This car is a more traditional rod, with a 302 Cleveland, C4 gearbox, 9" diff and HK front end, with dropped spindles and Commodore power steering. The wheels are original spokes, modified to 15 x 6 on the front, and 15 x 8 on the rear. I hope to have the car finished for Valla this year. It will also be for sale when completed, and I would be pleased to speak with anyone interested in purchasing either car, and can be contacted on (07) 3200 0039.
