1997 Adelaide Hot Rod & Street Machine Spectacular

This year was an almost all SA show, with only two interstate entrants, and both of those made their way across the Nullarbor! Charlie Blogna and Domenic Ciccino had a worthwhile trip though, with both taking home major awards to WA.

Brenton Dalwood debuted his '33 Ford Coupe, and scored "Best Interior" & "Second Coupe".

Frank McCue's '33 Ford Coupe, "Top Show Car". Outstanding workmanship on this car.

The show was officially opened by the Rt. Hon. Diana Laidlaw, SA Minister of Transport, who was chauffeured to the show in John Bryant's '37 Ford Woody. Other rods collected media personalities, and returned them later.

Richard Farquhar owns these early style rods pictured on the Road Knights club stand.

Valley Hot Rodders "Rod-A-Matic" stand took top honours.

Many new rods made their debut at the show, with some outstanding cars among them. Maybe none more so than Frank McCue's '33 Ford Coupe. To encourage clubs to raise the standard of displays, the promoters increased the prize money for club stands considerably. It obviously worked, as clubs put on their thinking caps, and came up with some very clever stands. Valley Hot Rodders came out on top this year with their "Rod-A-Matic" rod building machine; just add old tin, and, Presto! "Andy & the Rock-its" played regular rock 'n' roll sets througout the weekend, adding to the atmosphere.

Joe Dimech debuted his Cleveland powered 'A' Roadster, and went home with "Second Roadster" award.

Charlie Blogna, all the way from Perth, took home a swag of trophies, including "Top Hot Rod".

SAHRA and John Bryant again put on a professional and spectacular event that showcased rodding to the public. Next year sees the show making a welcome return to the June long week-end. We are sure the crowds and rodders will support the move, and take the show into a new era.

Michael Ahrens' new project follows along the lines of his 'A' Tourer. This little roadster is pure nostalgia.
