1997 Rock 'n Roll Run
Albury Street Rodders

Australian Street Rod Federation - Street Rodder News Issue No. 10 - July 1997

Albury Street Rodders held their annual Rock 'N Roll Run at the beautiful Lake Hume Resort over the weekend of 21-23 February. Each year, entries to this popular event grow, with 120 entrants participating this year. The heat wave conditions experienced on the border this February meant that rodders really appreciated the variety of ways to cool off at the resort, which include the giant waterslide, the pool, the lake, or just sitting back in the shade with a 'cool drink'.

(1) Greg Jones outstanding 'NSTLJA' '34 Ford Coupe, which also debuted at the run.
(2) Rod Broberg's '34 Delivery from Stawell, debuted at the run. Clever signwriting reads "For a top chop-Stawell Butchers".

This year's activities kicked off on Thursday night with a bench session for early arrivals. Things really got going on Friday night, with a large crowd enjoying beer 'n burgers, and catching up with old friends.

After a bacon and egg breakfast on Saturday morning, rodders assembled for a blackjack run through Wodonga and Albury to the Ettamogah Pub for lunch, and entertainment in the form of live music, and organised games for the kids. A courtesy bus on Saturday night ferried entrants to the Kinross Woolshed, where a roast dinner was served prior to rock 'n rolling the night away, with music courtesy of "The Earlies". Rodders also enjoyed a fun 'juggling and tumbling display' by some young and energetic members of the local "Flying Fruit Fly Circus".

The Show 'n Shine and voting followed a pancake breakfast on Sunday morning, with kids (big and little!) again enjoying the waterslide. The organised activities concluded with presentations at midday, although many entrants stayed on for lunch and relaxed by the pool on Sunday afternoon, before heading off in the cool of Sunday night, or the following morning.

(3) Kevin Lewis' smooth '34 Tudor. One of the Top 6 winners. (4)Line up of cars at Ettamogah Pub on Saturday.

The Albury Street Rodders are an energetic and friendly bunch, who enjoy hosting fellow rodders at their annual run. They are already well into the planning of their '98 run, and look forward to seeing you there.
