POSTCARDS

Dear Editor,
Re your Postcards from column, issue 14 of S.R.N. There was an article from Al Cook of CSRA in Canada stating that they will host any Aussies going to the CANATS. This does hold true. I was at the '96 CANATS, held in Brampton, Ontario (30 kms from Toronto), and along with my travelling companions, Mort Glancy who drove an 'A' Model Woody Delivery from San Diego, California, USA, and well known Canadian rodder Duke Brown who was in his beautiful '39 Ford convertible, was asked "cut the ribbon" to declare the opening of the '96 CANATS. I had a ball a the CANATS, so start planning to go in 1999.

I also attended 6 U.S. rodding events during my 2 months holiday in the U.S.A., including the U.S. Nats in Columbus, Ohio, (with 12,500 rods, unbelievable!!), and 3 Goodguys events. I also met Dave Lukkari (photo page 28, same issue). I drove around with Dave for a whole week in his Model 'A' modified with Flathead power, Ardun heads and a S.C.O.T. blower. Fantastic Rod! Fantastic Guy! I hope to go back to the U.S. again, as soon as I get my '32 Ford roadster project finished.

Official opening of the 1996 Canadian Nationals. I'm in the passenger seat of the Model 'A' Woodie. Duke Brown owns the '40 Ford convertible.

Aussies go to battle at Bonneville!!

A large contingent of Australian Street Rodders converged on the US in August to take part in the celebrations for the 50th Anniversary of salt lake racing Speed Week at the Bonneville salt flats.

Alan Chapman sent us this photo which shows the 40ft container packed, ready for it's long voyage to the States with Oz salt racers, John Lynch's Keith Black powered belly tank (A/Blown Fuel Lakester), ready to go, along with Leigh Fielder's (A/Gas Altered) Camaro & Rod Hadfield's (A/Blown Fuel Altered) Studebaker. We hear there were some record breaking passes made at this year's event. (We hope to have an in depth article on the Bonneville 50th Speed Week Anniversary in the next issue.)
