Issue No. 13 April 1998
There were two letters received this month from members, both writing about events that they have recently attended.
We'd like to share their thoughts with you.
Dear Sir,
On November 29th & 30th we attended the '97 Rawson Rod Run (Victoria). Great country and good people. We had a nice time on Saturday night at the dance, and were looking forward to the pokie run on Sunday. This was when things started to go wrong. The ignition in my '32 Ford coupe decided to play up. Well, with bonnet off, and head down, help came from all directions. The purpose of this letter is to thank all those who helped get the rod mobile again. To name a few, Bill & Ray, Colin for the trailer lift down to Gippsland Heritage Park, Denis for chasing up parts, and all that offered their help. Congratulations to Eastern Valley Street Rodders on a great weekend. And to all those that showed what true Rodding is all about.
Yours in Rodding, Ray Milsom
Pegasus Rod & Custom Club.
(Next letter is from Dale Sump from Kansas, USA. Dale met up with us at the Hawkesbury Nationals, and ended up joining the ASRF! We didn't really twist his arm!)

My wife and I attended your Nationals last March at Hawkesbury. We really enjoyed ourselves, and decided to join your organisation. I have been associated with the US National Street Rod Association for 28 years, and for the last 7 as the Kansas Safety Inspector, and we are one of the few that have attended every Street Rod Nationals. After we got home from Australia I was appointed the West Central Division Chief Safety Inspector.
We really did enjoy our time there, seeing all the beautiful cars, and meeting such wonderful people. I was given the opportunity to drive one car, and riding home in others. You really know how to treat visitors to your country, at least the street rod ones. While there, I just had to do a little NSRA Safety Inspection, of which all the cars passed with flying colours.

We enjoyed the drags on Friday, and meeting so many people on Saturday. We didn't attend the event on Sunday, as we did some sightseeing in Canberra, and out west. We always thought that going to Australia would be a once in a lifetime trip, but we just couldn't see much in a week, so we may be back one of these days. We have met so many nice people while there, and since coming home, that I know there will be another trip in the future. We'll know better what we want to do next time.
Since returning home I sold the '34 Ford Coupe we had driven for 8 years, and shortly after selling it I bought a '38 Chevy pick-up. Still working on a '34 Chevy Sedan Delivery. Thanks to all of you "down under", hope you enjoy the Rodding season while we are buried in the snow up here!
Dale & Valerie Sump.
NSRA Vehicle Safety Division.
