Plastic Rodder
Australian Street Rod Federation - Street Rodder News Issue No. 10 - July 1997
By Geoff Rea
To all those who entered the model display at the recent Street Rod Nationals, I thank you all for making it the best display of models at any Nationals so far, with nearly 160 models on display.
I'd like to congratulate and thank Roy Brand and his good lady Karen for doing an excellent job to organise such a successful display. Nice one guys!

Monogram '39 Chev Sedan Delivery
1/24th (Kit No 2773)
I think this kit was first tooled in the early '80's, and was welcomed by modellers as it had been a long time since any model company had introduced an all new street rod kit, let alone a Chev.
The Body consists of a separate fender/floor unit. The stock 3 piece bonnet assembly is a one piece item. The body is a real nice piece that features a separate hinge rear door.
The Chassis is a one piece assembly that features a moulded on twin exhaust. The front and rear ends are basically stock '39 Chev items, although the beam axle has a reasonable drop.
The Motor & Trans are a Big Block Chev and 4 speed manual. The engine has a nice medium rise twin 4 barrel set up, and also has a good set of tubular
headers.
The Interior is one of the weaker points of this kit, featuring outdated high back buckets seats and no door trim detail at all. However, the stock
dash is quite reasonable.
Wheels & Tyres. The wheels are an unusual 5 spoke chromed wheel, that would be better suited to a muscle car. The tyres are 4 of the same size Goodyear
radials, that are too small for the rears, and too big for the fronts.
In Conclusion; whilst this is a nice kit, it is lacking in a few areas. However, it is a simple kit to build, and lends itself well to modifying.
Modelling Tip
A Different Perspective
Something I've done a lot of is to take photos of my models (not necessarily with the best results). I've used photos of 'in-progress' models to help me make decisions as to what looks right.
When I was building my interpretation of the 'Chezoom' '57 Chev, I couldn't decide what wheels to use on it. So I mocked up the model with the various wheel/tyre combinations I had in mind (actually 4 different sets), I then photographed the mocked up model with these wheel/tyre combinations. When I got the photos back it allowed me to see the model from a totally different perspective, and definitely helped me make up my mind as to which wheels/tyres to use. Even stepping back a few feet or more and looking at your model project allows you to see it differently.

This race car was built by myself. The basis of the '34 Tudor body was the Revell/Orange Crate '32 Tudor. The chassis, engine & running gear were all adapted from a Monogram Camaro-Pro Stocker.
