Simon Hamilton's letter was only one of a few which have been received congratulating the organisers of the 13th Nationals for the success of the event. Due to space restrictions, we have only been able to print Simon's letter, but his comments are typical of those who have put pen to paper re the Nationals..
The 13th Nationals has has been awarded an "Award for Excellence" from Tourism Hawkesbury in the "attractions & entertainment" section. The award was presented by Brian Langton, NSW Minister for Transport & Tourism. The ASRF event was selected by Ross Miller, the Chairman of Tourist Hawkesbury Inc. Awards such as this are a boost for the image of hot rodding to the general public and are much appreciated by our Association
The recent phone conference held by ASRF Directors voted unanimously to hold the 14th Nationals in 1999 at Geelong, Victoria. Previously, Shepparton had been selected as the venue, but on further investigation by the Victorian State Council, it was decided that the added benefits of the proposed Geelong site made it a more attractive venue for staging a Nationals. The Geelong Nats steering committee are in full Nationals mode, with their first advice sheet included with this newsletter.
At the time of writing this report, full details of the outcomes of the 13th Nationals are still on the way, but all indications are that the Hawkesbury event was a success both in entrant numbers and enjoyment, and financially as well. Profits from ASRF Nationals go towards the running expenses of our Association, and enable us to make the commitment to organise major events such as Nationals with confidence.
As noted in the last issue of the newsletter, clubs are progressively sending their 1997/1999 members renewal fees in. So far clubs in Qld, NSW, Tas, & Vic have been invoiced directly to the club secretaries.
Thankyou from the 1997 Nationals Raffle Rod winner.
