Course Description & Requirements

100916 AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY/First Year

100917 AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY/Second Year

Elective. This two-year, Automotive Service Excellence (A.S.E.), program, which normally begins in the junior year, is devoted to developing entry level auto mechanic skills in the maintenance and repair of both domestic and foreign automobiles. Each student will have the opportunity to learn shop mathematics, science as related to auto mechanics, auto electricity, sketching and reading diagrams and schematics. Additionally, each student will learn to read and use automotive service manuals and technical bulletins.

Shop and customer vehicles will provide opportunities in engine repair, transmission service, brake, fuel, steering, suspension, steering alignment, ignition, exhaust systems diagnosis, repair and overhaul. Students will be scheduled into this course for 3 consecutive hours per day (15 hours per week). This will allow the student to earn 3 units of credit for each year successfully completed.

Second semester students (senior level) who meet the minimum requirements will have the opportunity for early job placement. Senior students are encouraged to take the A.S.E. certification tests. Students are required to join Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA).

Units of credit: 3.0 per year
Fee: Workbook - $19.00
 VICA dues $8.00
 Each student must purchase the following from a source of their choice:
 Safety glasses, coveralls, work shoes/boots and 3-ring notebook - as approved by instructor.

Tool Kit - Seniors only- - - tools MUST BE APPROVED by instructor.
