The 1989 Ford Mustang lived on virtually untouched by change. It still remained one of the most popular cars on the road. The output of sales did decrease by almost 9,000 cars. One Major change that occured on 1989 was a change from a speed density system to a mass airflow sensor. Although the speed density system was faster than the mass airflow, the mass airflow was easier to modify.
The ever popular 5.0 HO was still present under the hood. It still featured its 60mm throttle body, 19 lb-hr injectors, E7TE truck heads, tuned length aluminum intake plenum, and roller lifter cam. Also, all GTs sported .83 in. rear anti-sway bar, 1.3 in. front anti-sway bar, gas preassurized struts with rear quadra-shocks, and the same 15x7 in. wheels with turbine centers. Teaming up once again were the stainless steel exhaust pipes and stainless steel tubular headers. The brakes reamined unchanged at 10.84 inchers.
The exterior of the 1989 Mustang was the same as the '87 and the '88. It featured: Aerodynamic nose, fog lights, ground effects package, louvered taillights, rear wing, and "flush rear quarter window." Most exterior paint colors carried over.
Black, Dark Grey Metallic, Light Grey, Bright Red, Cabernet Red, Medium Shadow Blue Metallic, Bright Regatta Blue Metallic, Deep Shadow Blue Metallic and Oxford White.
The interior of the 1989 Mustang was mostly carried over from 1988 except one major thing: The addition of a 140 MPH speedometer in all 5.0 Mustangs. Also the same was the dash, intrument panel, knobs, seats, and trims.
