The 1997 Falken Tyres Rally Queensland will see the debut of a new vehicle into the Queensland and Australian Rally Championship competitions - the Suzuki Baleno of Henry Ryman and Rod Biggar, supported by the Keema Automotive Group and the Quick Fit Tyre Service.
The new Suzuki completes the three car Keema Suzuki Rally Team. The crew of Ryman and Biggar are no strangers to Rally Queensland, finishing second in class PR1b of the 1996 Falken Tyres Rally, driving an aging Honda Civic sedan. The crew feel that the technological advantages provided by the new Suzuki Baleno will see them even more competitive in the 1997 event.
The car is a 1996 model Suzuki Baleno GL 3 door hatch. While the car is externally identical to the other cars of the Keema Suzuki Rally Team, the showroom standard GL sports a smaller 1.6 litre engine, putting the car in class N2 for the 1997 rally.
The driver: Henry Ryman. Henry is an experienced rally campaigner with over 20 years of experience in the sport, having previously taken outright victories in rounds of the Queensland Rally Championships. After a taking a break from the sport for a number of years, Henrys return to serious rally competition in 1995 saw him quickly regain the form of old, giving the team a reputation for being quick, consistent competitors in Queensland rallying.
The navigator: Rod Biggar. Although a relative newcommer to the sport of rallying, with only a few seasons of competition experience, Rods enthusiasm for the sport and the team are obvious. After teaming with Henry Ryman in 1995, Rod and Henry quickly formed a good relationship in the car, which proved to be an advantage that saw excellent results towards the end of the 1996 rally season. Rod is also involved in other aspects of motorsport administration and competition.
The crew of car 57 would like to encourage everyone associated with the 1997 Falken Tyres Rally Queensland to support the work of the
Brisbane Youth Outreach Service.
Henry Ryman and Rod Biggar are long-time supporters of the local charity, which in turn provides support for the homeless and troubled youth of Brisbane. The team provide assistance to the Brisbane Youth Outreach Service, both financially and in less material ways.
