RPZip

Many people like to keep replay files for a variety of purposes. For those who do, the replays can rapidly accumulate to fill a great deal of drive space. Standard compression programs like PKZIP can help recover this drive space by finding patterns which repeat in a replay file. While this has can be successful, the results could be better.

SealSoft Works designed RPZip with this in mind. By taking advantage of a unique understanding of the replay file format, RPZip can compress files in a way which PKZIP was not designed. The examples below show the effectiveness of RPZip over both the raw files aand PKZIP compression.

RPZip 1.0 was originally designed to work with offline NASCAR2 replay files. Although online replays, such as with TEN, have the same file format, there is a potential problem with compressed replays which have significant "warping," a problem which is not present in offline replays. Version 1.1 fixes this situation so that RPZip works properly in all cases.

RPZip is availible for DOS as a pair of command line programs (RPZip and RPUnzip) or for Windows 95 (RPZWin). The compressed files produced by both versions are 100% compatible with one another.

Download RPZWin 1.1 for Windows 95 (1120 k). Unzip the file to a directory and run SETUP.EXE. Follow the onscreen instructions.
If you are running version 1.0, click here to download the 1.0 to 1.1 patch for Windows 95.
Download for DOS (76 k). Unzip the file to a new directory. Information is in the README.TXT file.

Send us e-mail telling what you think of the RPZip. We are also interested in hearing if there is interest in a version for Windows 3.x.
