Spider Steering Box Adjustment

by Simon Favre

The only correct way to make this adjustment is with both front wheels off the ground. Center the steering wheel, loosen the locknut a few turns, then screw the adjuster in gently until it bottoms. Tighten the lock nut and check for binding. You should be able to turn the wheel easily from side to side without it feeling stiff or rough near the middle of the range. If you put the car back on the ground, and still have steering play, you have another problem. Make sure the steering box has 90W oil in it, or switch it to wheel bearing grease. Happy motoring!
