Turkey, ham, and raspberry jam were just part of the ingredients for a delightful lunch. After a shopping tour of downtown Eureka Springs we sat with Don and Joyce Zerban high above the crowds on the balcony of the Basin Hotel. The Eureka Springs weekend was organized by the Oklahoma AROC this year. Normally its the Kansas City club that hosts the event but since they put on the national convention this year (and did a fine job of it too, by the way), since Kansas City AROC put on the national convention this year Eileen and Dave Simmons of OK stepped forward to volunteer their clubs organizational skills. The Alfa activities started at 1 pm Saturday but the trolly delivered us back to the hotel about 30 minutes too late to join the rally. Instead we visited the Eureka Botanical Gardens and admired the architecture of Thorncrown Chapel. Late in the afternoon everyone gathered in the warm sunlight outside the hospitality room. It was there that I learned that enthusiastic KC club members Arno and Martha Leskinen are leaving KC and moving to Phoenix! But they do plan to fly back to St Louis for Spring Fling in April. Overheard at Eureka Springs: The guy I selected to paint my car suggested he add some pearl to the silver paint to give it depth. I said 'OK, but I dont want this car to look like no bass boat.' |
