~My Favorite Labonte~

Hello, my friends at Nascar Speedchat know me as #18. I live in Southern Lower Michigan, about 40 miles from Michigan Speedway.

Birthdate: May 8, 1964
Height: 5 ft. 8 in.
Weight: 175 lbs.
Residence: Trinity, NC
Wife: Donna
Son: Robert Tyler
Daughter: Madison Elizabeth

Bobby Labonte began racing with quarter midgets in Texas in 1969 at the age of five. Then graduated to go-karts in 1978. He was in Late Model cars in 1986, in Late Model Sportsman in 1988 and moved to the NASCAR Busch Series in 1990. He won the series championship in 1991. In 1993 Bobby moved to NASCAR Winston Cup, driving for Bill Davis for two years before moving to the Joe Gibbs team for the 1995 season. In 1995, Bobby's Busch team won the Busch Series Championship with David Green at the wheel.

This fall I had the opportunity to attend the fall Charlotte race. What an awesome track! It took me about 11.5 hours to complete the trip from MI to NC..but it was well worth every mile! The hills of Virginia were beautiful, the North Carolina red dirt was something this Yankee had never seen.

While there, I toured Dale Earnhardt's Shop. That's a tour you don't want to miss. They take you on a guided tour throughout his shop. He has a museum with his cars displayed and a gift shop. I also toured, Darrell Waltrip's shop and attended his 25th Anniversay Party.

Saturday was the Busch Race, seen both of the Shell Pontiac's #18 driven by Bobby, and the #44 which Tony Stewart will be piloting this coming year. Later that nite, I attended Bobby's Fan Club Outing. This was the second time I had had the opportunity to meet him. Bobby is a very polite man, with a fantastic sense of humor.

Then came race day, Bobby's car was awesome...he took that track by storm, but his lead was overcome by a wreck between turns 1 & 2. He came back at the end, but it was not his race to win. Dale Jarrett won that race.

The following day, I met Dale Jarrett, toured his facility and had dinner at his restaurant. Nice place, all chrome and sixties look on the inside. On my way back to Michigan, I stopped at Jimmy Spencers Busch Shop, had my picture taken with him..seen the car that he and Mark Martin did some rubbin' and bumpin' with during the BGN race. Then came the Hendricks Shop, toured his museum..it's a very nice place also, quite informative. Then walked over to Terry's Cup shop..where they were preparing his Cup car for the next race. With little time left, I stopped into Terry and Bobby's Busch Shop. Very nice place, but they weren't around! :(( Gave me a great opportunity to catch up on more of Bobby's racing career!!!

My last stop was Bill Davis Racing, the home of Ward Burton's #22 MBNA Pontiac team. Those people were great, very friendly and let us roam around their shop. Met Ward, he is super friendly guy...even had my picture taken with him. Bobby used to drive for Bill Davis, drove the #22 Maxwell House car..so many of his pictures were displayed there. Was great to see some of Bobby's career in the making. Well that is about it for my trip to Charlotte, North Carolina. If you ever get the chance, go see where racing history was made, by all means go...it's beautiful.

Hope you enjoy what I have so far. I will be working on this page, so please stop back soon! :o)
