Required Vehicle Safety Items

A.Kill Switch

  1. 1.There must be at least two kill switches grounding the engine ignition system. They must be on each side of the car and accessible from the outside of the vehicle.
  2. a.All kill switches must be a toggle type w/ a minimum of a 1/2 inch metal paddle.
  3. b.Both kill switches must be marked in a solid 2 inch or larger florescent orange square.

B.Guards and Shields

C.Helmets

  1. 1.Each driver is required to wear a DOT approved or SNELL rated motorcycle -type helmet.
  2. a.The driver must wear his/her helmet when they are operating the vehicle
  3. b.If the helmet does not have a full face visor - safety glasses must be worn.

D.Fuel and Lubrication Systems

  1. 1.Pressurized tanks will not be permitted.
  2. 2.All push-on fuel line fittings must be clamped.
  3. 3.Use care in selecting your fuel bottle's location. It should be somewhere that is vented and accessible.
  4. 4.All vehicles will be inspected for fuel and lubrication leaks.

E.Breaking System

  1. 1.The brake system must be adequate for stopping the vehicle in a reasonably straight line. Being able to stop the vehicle within 40 feet an approx. 15 MPH will be the standard.

F.Fire Extinguisher

  1. 1.A 2 lb. minimum, multipurpose ABC dry chemical fire extinguisher must be located on the vehicle.
  2. 2.The driver must be able to reach it within 5 seconds.
  3. 3.If you are going to use a fire ext. system with hoses the following guidelines apply:
      a.The minimum diameter hose is .5 inch.

      b.No restrictions on the length.

      c.The system must be directed at the engine/fuel bottle.

      d.Tests must be conducted and documented by your instuctor ( (w/signature). On race day, random checks may also be done.

      e.The system must be working at all times.

G.Exhaust system

  1. 1.Exhaust must exit the vehicle body. Exhaust pipes will be checked for leaks and cracks.

H.Fire Wall

  1. 1.A wall of steel or aluminium of .032 inch minimum thickness must seperate the driver from the engine.
  2. 2.The fire wall must be higher than any portion of the driver's body.

I.Exitability

  1. 1.In case of emergency the driver must be able to exit the vehicle, unassisted in 7 seconds or less.

J.Rear View Mirror(s)

  1. 1.All vehicles must be equipped with at least 1 rear view mirror. The mirror must give the driver a clear view behind the vehicle.

K.Seat Belt

  1. 1.All vehicles must have a lap belt securely mounted to the vehicle frame. The driver must always wear the belt during all competition.

L.Roll Bar

  1. 1.Vehicles must be equipped with a roll bar that will withstand impact and protect the driver in case the vehicle rolls. The roll bar must be higher than the driver's head, body and helmet.

M.Enclosed Vehicle

  1. 1.The driver must be enclosed inside a vehicle body. However, the engine does not.
  2. 2.If you enclose your engine, the following is recommended:
      a.Make sure the engine compartment is ventilated.

      b.Use an exhaust pipe the channel out the exhaust.

      c.The fire wall must completely seperate the driver and the engine.
