Welcome to my RX-7 page which highlights the 1990 Red Mazda RX-7 Turbo along with some other awesome RX-7's on the road today, in America and Japan. The stats and pictures on this page have been compiled from several pages along with my own personal data to give you the most informative RX-7 stats on the web.

The Mazda RX-7 began it's upward spiral into the huge sports car arena in the late 70's and early 80's with the first generation RX-7. This car first came out with a 1.1 liter 4 barrel rotary engine, known as the 12A motor. This car boasted 105bhp and a top speed of 122mph. A GSL-SE 13B rotary engine was also used in later productions of the first generation but they were rare.
In 1985 Mazda introduced the second generation RX-7 as an 86 model year with a 1.3 liter 13B rotary engine. This upped the horsepower to 146bhp and 138 ft-lbs of torque at the wheels. The top speed was a whopping 137 and an impressive quarter mile time of 15.5 @ 87 mph. 4 wheel disc brakes were added as a standard option and in 87 a 13B Intercooled Turbo II model was showcased bringing 180 bhp to the driver's delight. The front to rear weight ratio is almost equal at 50.2% front, 49.8% rear giving the car incredible cornering abilities.
Many have wondered why they call this first Turbo the Turbo II model? A little japanese history of the RX-7 is required to understand this motive. Some of the first generation RX-7's in Japan were outfitted with a Turbocharger as an option. Hence a second generation of Turbo's for the American RX-7 enthusiasts duelly named Turbo II's.
1988 saw a new lively lookinig RX-7 with several minor but noticable exterior changes as well as engine upgrades alike. Aero packaging was changed to include a large spoiler and body colored rub strips as options. This package was offered as standard on all Turbo II models. Rear lights also saw some major re-working which changed from a rectangular matrix to round sets of lights on each side. This is a very easy way of noticing a difference in model years.
Click here for a great laymens term editorial on exactly how the Rotary Engine works. I rank it as the most informative page on the Rotary engine complete with references to regular engines aswell.
