Note the SD455-type PCV in the oil filler cap. Chassis structure brace (visible near valve cover, behind brake master cylinder) makes the engine a very tight fit. Left snorkel of dual-snorkel air cleaner is also evident in this shot. Pre-heater stove is present and functional.

View of engine bay from right-front corner of car. Visible are the MSD 6T ignition box, passenger side chassis structure brace, oil hoses. Note that oil hoses are correctly supported by Adel clamps (screws above hose). Dual-snorkel air cleaner is installed with shaker sitting atop it. Air cleaner base is from 1970 Formula. Air cleaner lid from 1979 Trans Am, shaker is from 1979 Trans Am with 400ci W72 option engine. Compression band is correct for shaker.

Close-up view of the Tee that joins the rear coolant passages of the left and right cylinder heads. This is an advisable modification because it helps to keep the coolant flow more even from one side to the other side of the engine. According to Jim Hand, the modification helps to reduce the uneven wear that the #5 and #7 cylinders sometimes see.

Center exhaust ports on Edelbrock Performer RPM cylinder heads. Note the proximity to the Herb Adams VSE structure brace.

Closer view of oil hoses entering engine block.

View of Earl's #41910 oil cooler with front end of car removed. Mounting bracketry is very rigid and correctly supports the cooler to prevent damage due to vibration.

Clearer detail of oil cooler mounts, showing lower bracketry along with upper bracketry. Cooler is located ahead of glycol radiator on the passenger side of the radiator support. Notice the steel braided oil hoses. Also notice the rubber jacket placed around the oil return hose at the bottom right of the picture. This was placed around the hose to prevent it from being chafed by a nearby metal object. The hose and rubber jacket are tied tightly to the object.

Another view of the cooler and the rubber jacket protecting the Earl's hose.

A shot of the oil cooler and oil return hose from under the front bumper.

A view of the oil cooler as installed. Note the distance from the headlight support frame. This distance helps to offer good air flow through the oil cooler.

A view of the oil cooler Through the opening between the headlight support and the radiator support. Holes in radiator support are from previous oil cooler mounts.

A view of the oil filter mount. Note the bulkhead fitting for the oil return back to the engine compartment.

On to the front suspension... A shot of the passenger side front anti-sway bar end link. Note that it is a pair of rather large Heim joints. These provide more direct connection of the bar to the suspension, helping to stiffen the action of the bar. You can almost make out the 1-LE brake rotor at the far left of the photo as well.
