Silverstone has the distinction of hosting the first ever modern GP. May 13 1950, the weather was warm and sunny. Guiseppe Farina started from pole, set the fastest lap and won the race with an average speed of 90.950 mph. Silverstone is built on the remains of a WW2 airfield, still one of the faster circuits on the calendar, average speeds are 135mph +. Jim Clark dominated Silverstone with three succesive wins at the track, 1963, 1965 and 1967. In more recent years Nigel Mansell and Alain Prost were dominant at Silverstone. This year we'll see a changed Silverstone-circuit. Copse Corner and the four corner complex at the end will have undergone major changes. The idea was to take the four corners from Bridge on one gear higher and being able to overtake when approaching Copse Corner.
