This is the third year that the new Albert Park track will be used. It replaced Adelaide as the season-opener.
There has been a lot opposition against constructing this circuit form environmentalists.
The new Albert Park circuit varies from the original lay-out used in 1953, 1956 and in 1958 in one significant way;
the 1997 Formula 1 cars raced clockwise, as is the case with most Grand Prix circuits.
The circuit has a lot a fast corners and places to take over other cars.
