The Hungaroring became the first circuit behind the Iron Curtain to host a GP. It is said
that the crowd for that first race topped 200,000. The track is built in a natural amphitheatre which allows
views of most of the track. Unfortunately the track is very narrow and has too many slow corners, this makes
overtaking very difficult and usually leads to the GP being more of a procession than a race.
One event that does stand out is the 1989 race. Nigel Mansell won after starting 12th on the grid in his Ferari,
a truly remarkable performance.
