Barcelona has three circuits that have hosted a Grand Prix; Pedralbes, Montjuich Park and Catalunya.
The Circuito de Catalunya has hosted the Spanish GP since 1991. The switch was made after Martin Donnely had a near
fatal accident in his Lotus Lamborghini during practice for the 1990 Spanish GP at Jerez. It has a fairly long straight,
so it is very important to get on the straight with a high speed to be able to overtake someone.
Many people remember Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell racing wheel to wheel for the length of the main straight in the
1991 race as they fought for the world championship. Mansell won the race, Senna went on to win his third title.
