		LATE MODEL SPRING CHAMPIONSHIP A GO FOR SATURDAY 
 
				FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

	ANDERSON, Ind.  (May 1)  Trackside Associates, promoters of the 
Anderson Speedway, and WAXT 96.7 Rockin’ Country have joined forces.  They 
will sponsor the Late Model Division’s Spring Championship race this 
Saturday.  The Late Models are the fastest of the cars competing at the 
speedway.  These cars are purpose built, with only the bodywork resembling a 
normal passenger car.  Anderson’s own Jim Cooper is in the season-long 
points lead.  Ray Fullen of Anderson is holding down second.  Yorktown’s 
Bull Baker has a feature win.  The race for the division’s points title has 
taken on a different look, thanks to some sad circumstances.  Defending 
points champ Bobby Fields (Willow Branch) was seriously injured on April 
22nd and former titelist Vic Hellis was injured on May 6th.  Fields is out 
for the season and Hellis possibly for just for a few weeks.


	The Figure-8 class is beginning to resemble the Figure-8 class of 
days gone by.  Equally matched cars, exciting drivers and close calls at the 
crossover are an everyday occurrence.  Defending points champion Joe 
McKinney (Markleville) is in semi-retirement due to a back injury.  
Markleville’s Tom Gossar is now driving his car from last season, and 
already has one win.  Anderson’s own Rod Phipps took the first 15 lap win on 
April 8th.  New Castle’s Randy Hinshaw took second.


	Stop Ronnie Rose is the cry in the street stocks!  Rose, of 
Anderson, has won the last 3 features.  The Street Stock class allows for 
exciting competition on a budget.  The cars in this class most closely 
resemble true street cars.  Defending points champ Chris Bair of  Anderson 
will attempt to defend his points' title.  Anderson’s Rob Hazelbaker won on 
opening night but has sold his car.  Fortville’s Don Cain has ran up front 
several times, so far.
