Formula 500, began in Australia in the 1930, and were known then as TQ's. These days they are one of the fastest cars on the track with a power to weight ratio of approximately 275kw/tonne compared to a five litre V8 Commodore at 114kw/tonne.

Powered by a 500cc engine fueled by methanol the specifications have changed little over the years except for the addition of a roll cage and wings. These cars are often owner constructed but some drivers prefer to purchase a car and thier choice of engine. 2 or 4 stoke engines either rear or side mounted, and can be of either production { Jawa, Rotax, Suzuki, Honda} or Home construction.
