| The 8C 2300 engine
was created by the famous designer Vittorio Jano and the
cars powered by it were built from 1931 and up to the
beginning of war. The 8 denotes the number of cylinders
and 2300 is the displacement in cubic centimeters. The
straight-eight engine had two 4-cylinder blocks in a row
and the crankshafts were joined in the middle by two
helical-cut spur gears, one driving the camshafts via i
train of gears and the other the supercarger, oil pump ,
water pump and distributor shaft. It was largely built of
light alloy and when it first appeared developed 155 hp
at 5300 rpm later extended to 180. With larger
displacement the 8C 2900 with two-stage supercharging
