The one, the only, the "Taxi"

The illustrious "Taxi" as so deemed by all taking part in this adventure. This car had been roaming the streets of Belgrade for as many years back as any of us could remember. We called it the Taxi because it has a bumper sticker on the back that says "Mom's Taxi," and that it was; hauling around as many as 8 kids at a time. The former owners stopped driving the car because the tranny went out of it. Chris had his eye on this gem for some time before he actually bought it. The problem was the fact that they wanted $150 for it, which for us was too much money. Chris finally gave in because he wanted the front clip and various other body parts that came with the car to repair a station wagon he had bought from his high school physics teacher, Keith Clementson. We drug it home, pulled the motor and tranny, and put in old reliable a Buick V6. This was to be our bag racer. It was painted like a checker cab, and Mark and Chris rode it to victory in the first car Chris ever ran that didn't bear the 13 logo. It was CC1, for Checker Cab 1.

A shot of the engine compartment after we put the other motor in. Notice all of the room.

Believe it or not, Chris is putting the driveshaft back on the car. This is how most of his friends and relatives know him, and how he appears in his driver's license photo.

That darn driveshaft isn't on yet?

This time, Chris is lining up the shifter for the tranny, or so he says. Perhaps that driveshaft isn't on yet. Notice the nice equipment and safety abounding.

This is Chris's dad Russell checking out our handy work, after we put the motor in. We hadn't gotten around to putting the front clip back on yet.

This is the car after we had the front clip on and all of the windows removed. Isn't she a beauty?

Another view of it. If you look closely you can see the bumper sticker.

This is Chris's "good" station wagon as Mark and Dave are removing the front clip.

We came back with a very slightly mangled car, a trophy, and two big smiles.

Mark and Chris loved winning this one. Not too bad for Mark's first time out, and the first ever bag race at Sauk Centre.

The Buick Century Special sitting in its resting place where it has been for many years. Chris just picked this one up last fall. Only time will tell the future that this one holds.
