North America and the CrackerJack box driver's licence syndrome
November 17th, 1996

Almost not a single day goes by without hearing someone talking about bad drivers on our roads. Most often, they think that they are the only good drivers out there. We all want safer roads but we are not ready to admit that we are at fault nor do we want to take the warranted measures to solve the problems

It has comed to my attention that if the standards that are in place in some european countries were implemented in Norht America, up and above 50% of actual drivers would not even have a licence to drive.

Also, if our respective authorities actualy enforced the present regulations excluding the ever popular speed enforcement, none of us would likely go for one day without receiving a ticket.

One of our greater problems is self-awareness. The majority of the time we do errors, we are not even conscious of it. The rest of the time, we just figure that it doesn't really matter. But in the long run, it does.

The best our authorities ave been able to do so far is to force manufacturers to create more active security features when the authorities should really look at active safety instead. The cars don't drive themselves after all, people drive the cars.

.... not yet finished
