FZR 750(7K) |
The Yamaha FZR 750 was the half-way house between the FZR 600 and FZR 1000 which were both officially imported. The FZR750R 0W01 was brought in in limited numbers, but it's expensive and only really for the track. The FZR750 was only available in USA in 1987-88. The FZR 1000 was produced from 1987-96 and the later models gained an EXUP valve. The FZR600 was introduced in 1989 and is still produced today for the American market although it was replaced in 1993 in Europe by the FZR600R which ran until 1996.
There are a fair few about in the UK and some say they look a bit better than the early FZR1000's. They go like stink and the engine's are tough if not raced (unlikely). When buying always look out for the typical FZR traits, i.e slipping clutches and seized brake calipers. Remember that all FZR seats are planks, but Corbin make a comfy replacement.
The FZR 750 is however has more incommon with the FZR1000. Both engines have 20 Valves dervied from the FZ750.
The US identification codes are as follows (they
will be in the engine and frame no.'s):
1987
- 2NK
1988
- 3CS1
These may help if you need to order parts or if you are verifying a machines age.
Although with some imports getting detailed information is difficult - bot so with the FZR's. A Haynes manual is available and covers all countries FZRs:
