Is What My 302 Used to look like.
The
First thing I did was pull it out, and tear it down.
For simplicity sake I am going to keep the 302 and rebuild it and use it until I get the Bronco's 351 Cleveland built and ready the way I want to.
I Have always loved Early (I call them "BOX") Bronco's.
I ran across this one in my hometown through my little brother. He was
riding the school bus home and noticed two of them in his friends back
yard. He inquired and the rest is History. I bought mine for $40.00. NO
TITLE, AS IS, AND AS YOU SEE IT HERE.
The
Pistons were frozen, I had to work at em'.
In the end I plan to own one of the
Nicest Bronco's in Colorado.
I have now invested $947.00 into the original engine. First I had my favorite Machine Shop bake the block to clean it, Then they Bored each cylinder .030 in. I bought new pistons because reusing the old was virtually impossible, after being frozen up like they were. Originally I wanted to go cheap, since I plan on building the 351 Cleveland for my Bronco anyway. But since the pistons were trashed, and we had to get new, it's virtually the same cost for oversized pistons as OEM 4.00 in.
My machine shop advised that once I've gone in that far I might as well make it a good engine and resize the connecting rod journals, as well as line hone the block and turn the crank.
All machine work, incl. all of the above, Completely rebuilt Heads, new pistons, rings, bearings, performance cam, oil pump, and gasket set was included in the said price above of $947.00
That's the same price as what a remanufactured engine would have cost me had I bought one from Parts America, or any Parts store close to you, whether it be Auto Zone, O'Rileys, Checker, Pep Boys. Pretty much they all stay competitive. In fact most of them order from the same place. "Arron Engines"
Yes I'm going to have to assemble it myself, but I prefer it that way. I know what the engine has in it. Plus those reman's don't have the performance cam. Which by the way if you go the way of a reman engine, and you cam it yourself within the warrenty period, you can kiss your Warranty "Good Bye".
