My Porsche 914

These images are typically about 600 by 420 in size. Large and slow to load. I posted them primarily for people who want to see the details inside or behind something so I made them large for better viewing.

Before my current project car, in June 96 I bought my first 914. A rusted out 73 1.7L I got for $200. Bought at the time for the running FI engine, thinking of a Type 4 to Type 1 conversion for my Thing. Instead I stripped the car of good parts and started looking for a project car.

This is a shot under the parts car from left rear. I've removed the half shafts, muffler and extractor. You can see the KYB shocks, side shifter tranny and engine mounting bar, starter, etc. The exchanger mounting bar hides the broken right side tranny mounting horn.

This is in the front trunk with the gas tank removed. You can see a hint of the rust. Car had spent time in a cold climate, had an oil sump heater and about $3 in Canadian change under the seat. The wedged passenger door was a major structural element.

You can see the three fiber pads for the gas tank, the one closest to the passenger compartment is great for trapping water and rusting as can be seen. I've replaced these with closed cell foam pads on current car.

My 73 914 2.0L+ just after I bought it in Jan. 1997. Note the 'lovely' PPO provided fuschia paint job. They were also going for the Euro look so the side lights were removed. Euro turn signal lenses. Good things about the car: center console in ok shape, stock front and rear sway bars, real 911 Fuch wheels (but mounted with 4-5 lug adapters. These have been replaced with a 5 stud conversion).

Rear view of the 914. Euro rear lenses.

Engine view. Came with Weber 44 carbs and 009 dist. Case number is a real 2.0L engine. PO said it had been recently rebuilt by 'a friend who does race engine', had big bore kit and larger than stock cam. Based on what I've seen I don't trust the rebuild done and will eventually pull engine to at least pull and look at heads.

Stripping the fuschia paint from the 911 Fuchs. This was with a heavy duty paint stripper, the paint bubbled up almost immediately when it was applied. I'll polish them later.
