Grand Prix 2 SVGA Cockpit 3
                             version 1.0
                          James Ariz (C) 1996

---------------------------------------------------------------------

As with my Cockpits 1 and 2, this cockpit set is an evolution based
on Jan Johansson's JJ-Cockpit v1.1. For this version I have tried to
make the cockpit stronger and darker in appearance. This was also
deliberate, allowing me to include coloured steering wheel buttons
to mimic the look and feel of the Williams and Ferrari cockpits.
These cockpits are NOT intended to portray actual F1 cockpit design,
but rather to give a realistic 'feel' to Grand Prix 2. To make this
cockpit set more user-friendly, I have included a batch program that
will allow you to easily alternate between the 3 cockpits. I hope you
will enjoy using these cockpits as much as I have in creating them.

Although the steering wheel is fictional for F1, it was loosely based
on an actual Mclaren wheel and on the Extreme Competition Controls
wheel. Visit ECC @ http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/extreme/.

ZIP contents:

- cockpit3.bat, ferrari.pcx, mclaren.pcx, williams.pcx, readme.txt

Installation:

- backup your CPITHI.PCX file in the GP2\BITMAPS directory

- copy the contents of this ZIP into the GP2\BITMAPS directory

- to install the cockpit of your choice type under GP2\BITMAPS:

	COCKPIT3

- you will have 3 cockpits to choose from (all three are identical
except for the colour and labelling of the steering wheel buttons)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Changes since Cockpit 1 and 2:

- darkened LCD displays to enhance legibility
- increased the detail contrast for the dimmed rev and indicator
  lights
- removed the numbered driver aid buttons and race mode lights in
favour of my own version of the driver aid icons from the game
- updated the look of the steering wheel buttons to make them
'colour ready' and produced 2 colour schemes in addition to the
  default Mclaren off-white buttons
- added a reverse gear button (red R); moved the dummy switches on
the left side down to make room for the new button
(it is assumed that those switches would be for fuel/air mixture
   settings, and perhaps brake bias)
- added a rain light switch below the recommend gear LCD display
(W = wet; the down arrow indicates the ON position)

Changes for Cockpit 1 version 2:

- further tapered the outer edge of the cockpit to show more of the
  side view mirrors
- brightened the graduated shading for the damage display
- revised the column attachment introduced in version 1
- enhanced the look of the center hub on the wheel adding an outer
support ring with recessed slots for the 6 bolt pattern
- replaced the light grey buttons on the wheel with beige coloured
buttons to coordinate the look with the existing display scheme
- lowered the main LCD display to further enhance the look of the
  central hub area
- replaced the default extinguisher toggle with a switch of my
own design (metal toggle with a red ring at the base)
- added a dummy light for the extinguisher toggle (dim red light)
- removed Jan's mini gauge since I consider it too small to be of
any use in reality and also I didn't find it to look good next to
  the new extinguisher toggle

Changes for Cockpit 1 version 1:

- lowered cockpit height and cleaned up some lines and details
- revised the look of Reverse, Neutral, and Spin gear indicators
- altered the look of the cut-off steering wheel revising the button
arrangement and replacing the back plate with a column attachment
- added a few more screws on the dashboard
- graduated shading applied to actual and recommended gear numbers
- graduated shading also applied on the damage displays and driver
  aid ON buttons
- tinted lettering to a shade of grey and tinted numbers to match
the color of the actual gear numbers
- replaced the default black flag and TV replay sign with smaller
  versions
- replaced Jan's square pit indicator and race mode lights with a
  light/symbol arrangement
- retinted Jan's dummy switches to the match color of the driver aid
  buttons

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Steering Wheel Buttons:

- for Mclaren and Williams
	C (red) = engine cutoff
	R (green) = radio communications
	N (orange) = neutral
D (white) = drive button (pit lane rev-limiter)

- for Ferrari *
	N (green) = neutral
	S (blue) = scroll display
	R (yellow) = radio communications
	L (red) = pit lane rev-limiter

  * the neutral button was changed to blue in the second half of
the year, but I chose to keep it green to balance the look
