Johns recommendations:
Basically the mods fall into the following categories:
1) Fit the K&N air filter element = 3kW extra, no tuning required.
2) Fit a 38mm bore exhaust with a single flee-flow box at the rear in the normal place = 20kW
3) Fit the waste-gate over-ride kit. = 30 to 50% extra BUT it must be used with a lot of common sense, very intermittently as the engine temperature can get out of hand if
used continuously - not to mention the extra stress on the transmission etc.
4) Fit the water injection kit. This only "kicks-in" when the boost comes on line and helps to cool the turbo and engine as well as giving an extra 20% or so due to
super-heated steam factor.
All in all the mods can be done by anyone with a good mechanical knowledge of the workings of a turbo, but the kit is rather complex - especially the water injection as it
involves fitting certain electronic control circuits to monitor the water level and replenish the "water dump" reservoir during non-boost periods (which lets face it is 90% of the
running time). All the components are readily available from the after-market suppliers or electronic supply houses.
