051298-061298: Desaru MTB Race

Some parts of the Desaru trail are so steep, Ming Kiat (minh) has to get off and push.

The ascents are long but gradual in most places.

Samuel Yang (Shimano) with Peter Tao (Paceman), sitting in his car. Maybe some toothpaste company could use Sam as a model for white teeth.

A shot of the Desaru coastline. No ships!

These two coastline shots were taken at dusk.

This is the view competitors in the Dual Trials get as they line up on the start ramp. It's steeper and trickier than it looks.

The Mens Masters line up for the start, the time is 10 am.

And the Mens Masters are off. Chris Bray leads the way, but he soon relinquishes the lead.

Sharper, clearer action shots will soon be available courtesy of this guy, Ming Kiat (minh)

The backdrop for the Prize ceremony says it all.

Men's Masters Race Pics

One of the two Ladies XC Open racers. They beat many of the Mens Masters even though they started at the same time and raced the same distance of 4 laps.

The second half of the XC course consists of long steep downhills that lead up to more uphills, basically rolling terrain that racers can go really fast on.

Ronnie Lee, owner of Rotospeed, competed and finished in the Men's Masters category, finishing 10th.

Start of the Mens XC Open.

Conditions on the day were dry and dusty for the most part of the course, like at the start.

A Men's XC Open racer grinds up another climb.

Samuel Yang (Shimano) raced the XC Open astride Schwing's Trek Y-22.

Samuel catches air on the way to finishing another lap.

Kelvin (fluffy) raced in XC Open too, grinning hugely all the way. Maybe its because he saw cameras......

Despite an ankle and shoulder injury, Lawrence (wer) raced in XC. Definitely the Ironman award, in my book.

Samuel comes round on his second lap, in the second back of riders, as he prepares to drop off his CamelBak for refilling.

Julian (BadBatzMa) hands off the CamelBak back to Samuel on the next lap, his third.

Because of his injuries, Lawrence took it easy and cruised around the course.
