Monster Motorsports Group A Yokomo YR4SP

Phase II modifications

Over the last month, my hobby shop brought in some new hopups for the Yokomo YR4. I didn't need much of these except 1 very important item: widening universals. YR4s have always been known for being slightly narrower than IFMAR's rules for standard car width, hence considered by me and many others to not be taking full advantage of the rules.

From this angle, you can see the difference between the first car and the next. The standard Yokomo is around 188 mm depending on what rims you use, the wide Yokomo has been bumped up to the width of a Kyosho Spider, around 210mm.

Nothing else was changed, only the universals. The widening universals also came with extra washers to fit onto the outer part of it's shaft to reduce play, and at the same time, you can subtly adjust the width by either placing these washer inside of, or outside the hubs.

The above three pictures show details of the suspension widening. Click any to have a closer look.

These series of pictures are the opportunity I had to take pictures of both the Yokomos together; at left is the car that I've raced, and also previously featured, the second chassis. The car on the right is the first Yokomo I got, this used to belong to Brion Sohn. It's slightly showing its age, but I'm sure that with a good overhaul, it'll be as good as new, as there is a race coming up and I'll be ready.
