In Memory
of
Shamus
Ever since my husband and I have moved in with each other back in 1988, I have wanted a dog but we always lived in apartments and dogs usually aren't allowed. Then finally in 1996 while living in upstate New York on a military post we were able to get a puppy...Yippie!
We ended up getting this adorable 8 week old German Shepard/ Doberman mix and we named him "Shamus". We all just loved him dearly and he was very much spoiled <smile>.
He turned out to be a great dog. He was wonderful guard dog, bird dog,& buddy! He would go bird hunting with my husband all of the time and he was a natural at it. He never had any type of hunting training and never needed it! And with me, we would take walks in the woods or spend many hours down in this field playing catch or even sitting and relaxing in the sun!
With my husband being in the Military he is offten away and this one year he spent the whole year stationed over seas. We had to stay in New York but that was okay. I knew we were fine with our Shamus around!
Then one morning, 3 days after Christmas I got woken up with Shamus sitting up in bed growling. I thought he heard something but then the next second he just rolled off the bed and went into a Grand Mal Seizure...That was the start of a nightmare that would last 3 long months!
It started having them all of the time and he spend so much time at the Vets office so they could run tests and moniter him. The Doctors and I tried everything we could to get the seizures under control but nothing worked and with all of the strong medicines he was on made him "so out of it" we couldn't even do our favorite thing ~ playing fetch down in the field~. It was so heartbreaking seeing such a young dog go through such a ordeal.
The evening came when I saw in his eye that the dreaded time has come, We took that ride to the vets office ~ that ride I'll never forget~ and the Doctor put him to sleep so he could finally have some rest
.

We'll never forget you Shamus...Your forever in our hearts.
I do have one more command for you though...
That is to watch over my
Angel baby Janine till I can be with her.

In honor of my beloved dog I want to start a Virtual Memorial site for pet owners who have lost beloved pets. If you would like to submit a pet's name just email me with what ever info you would like on your pet's memorial and I will add it to the Doggie Park as soon as I can!
